Welcome to this week’s Sunday Reads!
This past week was a pretty good week. Surprisingly — despite the list below — I didn’t do too much reading. I actually took a day off of reading on Thursday and didn’t crack open a single book. OK, that’ s a lie: I did read a little poetry that day, but since poetry isn’t part of a larger story, I figured it would be okay.
I got caught up on reviews (kind of — still have a couple to write) and alphabetized my reviews by author instead of book titles. And now I’m left with plenty of time to read and 3 books that are due back at the library on Wednesday. I can totally do this!
Meanwhile, I’ve been reading What Is Stephen Harper Reading? by Yann Martel — a collection of letters he sent to our Prime Minister with book recommendations. I’ve been putting books on my wish list since I started reading! I’ve also been looking around for some books that mean something, books by Canadian authors, and books that aren’t YA (since I tend to get caught up in the genre once I start reading) and books that have won awards. I’m trying to be a little more diverse in my reading this year.
This week, I have nothing on the docket except for housesitting. Friends of mine have a new Newfoundland puppy and I’ll be watching it and their Bernese Mountain Dog. Should be fun! It’s only the beginning since I’ll be housesitting again later on in the month … with another dog AND my three dogs. It’ll be a full house!
This past week, I read:
1. Sweet Valley Saga: The Wakefields of Sweet Valley, by Kate William (created by Francine Pascal)
2. Shadow, by Michael Morpurgo
3. Distant Shores, by Kristin Hannah
4. The God of Small Things, by Arundhati Roy
5. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs
6. The Door (Poems), by Margaret Atwood
7. Recalculating (Short Story), by Jennifer Weiner
What I’m currently reading (and it’s kind of ridiculous):
1. The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova (Again — yes, I’m still reading it. I’m almost halfway through!)
2. The Cat’s Table, by Michael Ondaatje
3. The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches, by Gaetan Soucy
4. What Is Stephen Harper Reading?, by Yann Martel
This week, I plan to read:
1. The Marriage Plot, by Jeffrey Eugenedis
2. The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern
3. The Things We Do For Love, by Kristin Hannah
