Booking Through and Third Sentence Thursday

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Books, Biscuits, and Tea.

Do your reading habits change when you’re on vacation? Do you read more? Do you indulge in lighter, fluffier books than you usually read? Do you save up special books so you’ll be able to spend real vacation time with them? Or do you just read the same old stuff, vacation or not?

My reading habits definitely change when I’m on vacation. Sometimes it’s to the extreme and I don’t do ANY reading (when vacations are super busy). In those cases, it’s the car or the plane where I read. Or, I’ll bring something light with me to read. My problem is that I need silence to read. If a TV is on, I can’t concentrate (and the husband doesn’t read, so the TV is on). I definitely wish I could read MORE while on vacation, though I don’t go on that many, so it’s usually not a big deal.

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty’s Mostly Books.

Third Sentence Thursday

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here (in the comments) or if you don’t have a blog, just post it in the comments!

The book I’m currently reading (i.e. the book that will never end) is White Teeth, by Zadie Smith.

He lay forward in a prostrate cross, jaw slack, arms splayed either side like some fallen angel; scrunched up in each fist he held his army service medals (left) and his marriage licence (right), for he had decided to take his mistakes with him.

Definitely a cliff-hangar of a sentence! Being the third sentence (of a 542-page book), you’ll just have to read it yourself to see what happens. Does he die? Does he change his mind?

In other news, I totally signed up for NaNoWriMo today. I’ve never written a story–let alone a novel!–in my life, so it should be a good challenge.

Are you signing up for NaNoWriMo this year?

    • Wow, you’re lucky! I’m okay with some instrumental music, but TV is out of the question. And my husband always decides to talk to me when I’m reading next to him – especially about hockey stats. 🙂

  1. I try to save some special books for vacation – usually something that’s going to be a fast read, like young adult fiction. I hardly ever read nonfiction on vacation.
