After much deliberation, I’ve decided to participate in Bloggiesta 2012, which takes place March 30 — April 1. I’m actually waiting that weekend for a very special thing to happen and could use the downtime with reading (that is, I’ll still read, but not as much). Some friends of mine are expecting puppies and I’ll be anxiously awaiting their phone call so I can help (read: cry and gush) deliver at the vet! I’m breeding my dog this year, so I need all the help and practice I can get!

Bloggiesta is hosted by Suey at It’s All About Books and Danielle at There’s a Book.

If you decide to participate, you can expect:

    • to spend time that weekend (as much or as little as your schedule allows) working on your blog;
    • to create a to do list to share on your blog and link up with other participants;
    • to hopefully participate in several mini challenges and learn something new;
    • to connect with other participants through blog hopping or twitter;
    • to make new blogging friends;
    • and, to come away at the end of the three days with a spiffed up blog!

You can sign up here.

What do I plan to do over the course of 3 days?

1. Finish updating all my blog posts so they all look pretty and have the same format. –> Almost done! I have 19 more posts to go!

2. Make sure all my reviews are posted on Goodreads, Indigo, and Amazon.

3. Write up some more reviews (I’m behind and have 8 to write!) –> writing up templates for reviews that need to be written, so it’s easier to just write them when I can.

4. Make sure all my pages are up to date — post my review links to my challenges. (<– Decided to NOT post my review links, but leave links in my master Review Archive)

5. Start writing up some more discussion posts, do some Cover Love drafts. <– Scheduled 3 more Cover Love posts, almost to the end of the month.

6. Schedule my WoW posts for the next while. <– Scheduled until May 9th.

7. Take part in some challenges!

8. Chat with other bloggers and make new blogging friends. 🙂

9. Create a custom menu with drop-downs. (Reading Challenges are now in Drop-Down menus, which makes them easier to navigate!)

10. Create a “Favourites” page with my favourite books in different categories. –> started, but still have to go through older reviews to pick out books.

11. Create super-secret April 10th project post. –> Figured out tables when doing this! Not sure how to center the table in a post, but still.

12. Create blogroll page! <– Decided NOT to do this … maybe next Bloggiesta!

13. Attempt a vlog <insert long drawn out sigh here>. In the same respect, create a YouTube channel for Reading In Winter.

14. Add links to other reviews for scheduled posts <– Did this for all the posts I wanted to … not all of them.

15. Make sure all my scheduled dates in WordPress match the dates in my calendar.

Really super-important things that I added:

16. BACK UP THE BLOG! Exported and saved!

17. Change password to something a little more secure.

This has been an intense weekend! I was sick, so I didn’t have anything else planned, which meant I could spend hours on end on the computer. Being sick also meant my concentration was down, so I didn’t really feel like reading, which worked out well! I thought that it would take no time at all to get through my list, but was quite surprised that it took ALL weekend. I was pleased that I made it to all of the chats — which usually ended up with me adding more to my list — and I took part in a lot of the challenges, again learning new things! I think for the next Bloggiesta, I’m going to look more into social icons and maybe do a blogroll.

The things that I’m most happy about this time around is that ALL of my posts are finally formatted the same — I love that I’m not going to have to think about that again! I also really like the drop-downs — it makes it so much easier for my readers to navigate, and for me to navigate as well! Oh, and my vlog attempt! It was so much fun and really made me want to work on my speech when I’m nervous … the funny thing is that I’m a musician and have done live shows, so I wonder how many time I say ‘um’ when I’m performing.

The only thing I didn’t do was start writing some discussion posts, but that’s okay because I have a list of ideas and just posted one on Friday, so I have some time until I should do another one.

I had so much fun doing this and was happy to discover some new blogs and some new bloggers!

Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Is there anything you’d like to see on the blog? Anything that should be updated?

I’ll be posting updates on Twitter using the #bloggiesta hashtag. Don’t expect to see any posts on the blog, except for me crossing things off my list on this post. I hope to get caught up, which would be wonderful!

  1. If you have the time try to add “other reviews” at the end of your reviews (other reviews of that book by other bloggers). It will put your name out there, make new friends, and many of them will return the favor! It’s a pain in the butt but can be well worth it.

  2. The best part of this whole thing for me has been meeting and seeing the blogs of people I never knew were out there. The Internet is such a big, big place!

    Enjoyed chatting with you, have a wonderful, productive weekend!

  3. Great list! You’ve got some pretty complicated things on there, and you seem to be crossing them off quickly! I’m starting to think I should have put more composing type chores on my list, like writing reviews/discussion posts etc. *sigh* Even with a whole weekend there isn’t enough time.

    OH! And have the puppies come yet??? =)

    Nice meeting you and good luck with the rest of the weekend!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Anne! I’ve been working LONG days on my list, which is why it seems fast. 🙂

      And no … no puppies yet! It’s a good thing since I’m pretty sick and wouldn’t be able to go help with the delivery if I’m too sick. I’m hoping they come Monday!

  4. Nice list! You’ve done a lot of work on it already! I need to take part in a few mini challenges too. They all look very interesting and helpful. Which ones were you thinking of doing? Also, I’m super interested in what your secret event is! Guess I’ll just have to come back and see what it is, huh? 😉 Anyway, good luck with finishing up!

    1. I’ve done a few challenges over the weekend! I can’t even remember which ones now since I’ve been working nonstop! Let’s just say there will be more reading next week than blog stuff. 🙂

      Thanks for visiting … and yes, come back!

  5. Wow! Congratulations on everything you accomplished…and while sick! Way to go!

    I completely understand about the vlog nervousness thing. I’m also a musician and have performed numerous times, but it’s something about talking to people like that that seems to get my nerves up too. It does get better the more you do it, so no worries!

    Thanks again for participating and connecting so much! Hopefully you’ll make it for next Bloggiesta as well (minus the sickness of course)!

  6. Wow, you were definitely productive this weekend despite being sick (hope you are feeling better soon!). I was able to get a lot done, too and I also found that some things took way longer than I thought they would. I already started my list for next time and continue to add to it as I visit everyone’s final post.
