WEEKEND LIBRARY READING is a new feature of Reading In Winter! If YOU make use of your local library, feel free to participate. I work in a library that has a HUGE selection of awesome books, and even when I’m not working I seem to come home with a TON of them, so it only makes sense to showcase some of the beauties I plan to read from my local library over a weekend.
Why I Took Out This Book: Really, it’s Sarah Dessen, so I don’t think I need to say anything else. BUT, since this is a weekly feature, I figure I should add a little bit more. When I read my first Sarah Dessen book last year I fell head over heals in love. This book has received LOTS of good ratings, with some people saying it’s their favourite Sarah Dessen book. I’ve been making my way through the Sarah Dessen catalogue we have at the library and have really been looking forward to reading this one! Plus, I have a job at the library, just like Macy! And I’m an artist, just like Wes! I feel like I can relate already — it’s a win!
What It’s About:
That’s what Macy has to look forward to while her boyfriend, Jason, is away at Brain Camp. Days will be spent at a boring job in the library, evenings will be filled with vocabulary drills for the SATs, and spare time will be passed with her mother, the two of them sharing a silent grief at the traumatic loss of Macy’s father.
But sometimes unexpected things can happen—things such as the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister’s project of renovating the neglected beach house, awakening long-buried memories. Things such as meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an amazing artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl’s world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to wonder, Is it really better to be safe than sorry?
