Genre: Historical Romance

The daring members of the Stud Club are reckless gamblers and no strangers to risk—until love raises the stakes in Twice Tempted by a Rogue.

Luck is a double-edged sword for brooding war hero Rhys St. Maur. His death wish went unanswered on the battlefield, while fate allowed the murder of his good friend in the elite gentlemen’s society known as the Stud Club. Out of options, Rhys returns to his ancestral home on the moors of Devonshire, expecting anything but a chance at redemption in the arms of a beautiful innkeeper who dares him to take on the demons of his past—and the sweet temptation of a woman’s love.

Meredith Maddox believes in hard work, not fate, and romance isn’t part of her plan. But when Rhys returns, battle-scarred, world-weary, and more dangerously attractive than ever, the lovely widow is torn between determination and desire. As a deep mystery and dangerous smugglers threaten much more than their passionate reckoning, Meredith discovers that she must trust everything to a wager her heart placed long ago.

my thoughts-01

Tessa Dare has sucked me in again! As I said in my review of the last book in this series, One Dance With a Duke, this isn’t my favourite series by the author (Spindle Cove holds that honour!), but I am really, really enjoying it. Tessa really knows now to reel in a reader with awesome characters, steamy romance, and a perfect blend of suspense and humour.

I really like that the mystery of Leo’s death is carried over in this book — it really helps tie the series together. The stud club isn’t as prominent in this book, it was more laid out in the first book, but there are still horses (yay!).

I loved Meredith. When it comes to the female leads so far in this series, she’s got to be one of my favourites. She was strong and funny and very down to earth. I adored her love for Rhys, in fact it was nice that her love carried over from when she was a young girl. There was something so sweet about her and Rhys! Rhys is a bit of a tortured soul and Meredith’s character really balances out his hardness.

And speaking of Rhys, he is quite the character! Personally, I loved how everything in a room would stop because he entered it — mostly out of fear. I loved the darkness that surrounded him, mainly because I knew something good had to happen to get him out of it. And the mystery! I’m really not one for mystery books, but I do like what Tessa has done here. She got my attention, that’s for sure, even if the real mystery won’t wrap up until the next book.

Only one book in this series and I’ll be caught up on two of Tessa’s series! She really is a great writer when it comes to historical romance and has already become one of my favourites. I’m already recommending her to everyone who loves the genre, and maybe a few who don’t read it. I can’t wait to finish this series!
