Read Local. Read Canadian.

As you might know, Canada is a large place. It’s full of seasons, full of forests and water, full of beautiful scenery and lush landscapes. It’s also full of AUTHORS. For me, I hadn’t really given a thought as to WHO I’m reading until this year, 2013. It was late in the year where I knew I needed more Canada. I wanted to read more books written by people in my city and by people living in my country.

I thought a fun way to document my journey would be by province and territory. As I review an author, I’ll be sure to link the review up according to where abouts in Canada they’re from. Hopefully it’ll help other people interested in reading Canadian find their next read!

Do you have a suggestion for an amazing Canadian author I might be missing out on? Be sure to let me know!

15 thoughts on “Read Local. Read Canadian.”

  1. You don’t need more Ontario, and I don’t know how much fantasy you read, but Tanya Huff is one of my favourite Canadian authors–fantastic sense of humour and diverse characters.

  2. Isn’t Lucy Maude Montgomery from PEI? There’s Richard Van Camp from NWT. I’m trying to find the name of a really great MG book from either NWT or Nunavut…. I’ll have to keep looking

    1. She is! I do have a copy of Anne of Green Gables that I will try to read at some point … even if it’s just to get someone in that section! And I’ve written Richard Van Camp down — it looks like he has quite a few goodlooking titles. Thanks!

  3. Miriam Toews is from Manitoba! You should definitely give her a chance, I really enjoyed “A Complicated Kindness,” and I know you have read a lot of authors from Ontario, but you should give Jane Urquhart’s “The Stone Carvers” a read – it was one of my favourite books I had to read in highschool.

My home is where my books are. - Ellen Thompson
